Bronfenbrenner"s model (all systems are bi-directional: children are shaped by the environment in which they live, microsystem = layer closest to child. Social system closest to daily life, where they interact on a daily basis (school, family, peers, neighborhood, church: mesosystem = interactions between different microsystems (interactions between family and school or peers and parents). Sending consistent messages regarding behavior: exosystem = social systems where the child is not directly involved, but will directly impact person"s microsystem (parent"s job can impact child, funding in washington dc for education, macrosystem = outermost layer.
