Sent to the site of the lesion: attracted by ldl (especially oxidized), mcp-1, activated monocytes will phagocytose ldl and oxidize it. Foam cells accumulate and will distort the ec (endothelial cell layer), pushing out into the lumen. Ec gets thinner, allowing more materials to flow into the ses. Muscle cells and connective tissue will infiltrate.
