Hearing there is a waxy coating to protect the ears before birth, this takes time to deteriorate and therefore hearing is not completely functional at birth. Rods are functional, cones take about 6 months to fully develop. Range of 7-10 inches of sight, perfect for bonding with a mother holding the child. For about 8 months they are near sighted but then typical vision has developed after that time. Children are not little adults, but instead think quite differently about the world. Schemes- mental concept that"s formed through experience with objects and events. Assimilation- the incorporation of new information into existing schemes. Scheme for a dog- furry, four legs, a tail. Child hears barking for the first time, adds barking to the scheme for a dog.
