Often include a type of contingency management called token economies: Appropriate behaviors are reinforced with currencies (tokens) for desired rewards. While inappropriate behaviors are ignored or sometimes punished. Family therapy to improve coping skills of family members. Relatives experience high burden from caring for those with schizophrenia. Can delay relapses, but family therapies are best included alongside other forms of combined treatment. Social skill deficits in schizophrenia are independent of other symptoms. Reducing positive, negative, and disorganized symptoms does not help social skills. Sst does improve social adjustment, but not relapse rates. Evaluate, test, & correct distorted thinking about self & psychoses. Traditional cognitive therapy plus treatment aimed at: Improving general cognitive ability (attention, working memory, problem solving) and. Social cognition (empathy, understanding others perspectives and social contexts)
