PSYCH 212 Lecture Notes - Lecture 32: Sexual Dysfunction, Paraphilia, Dysphoria
Document Summary
Central problem is that sexual arousal is detached from loving relationships with another adult. Themes of aggression, violence, and hostility are common. Often impulses involving strangers or unwilling partners. Loss of arousal with actual consenting human partners. Any intense and persistent sexual interest other than sexual interest in genital stimulation or preparatory fondling with a phenotypically normal, physically mature, consenting human partner . Clinically significant distress or impairment to self or others. Compulsory, produce sexual dysfunction, or require participation of nonconsenting persons. The only difference between these disorders is the focus or target of sexual arousal. Being highly sexually aroused by nonliving objects. Any object can be the target of a fetish, but most common fetishes are women"s underwear, shoes, or products made of leather/rubber. Typically masturbate while holding, rubbing, or smelling object. May be unable to be sexually aroused w/o presence of object. Cross-dressing for the purpose of sexual arousal.
