Document Summary

Writing assignment one (cid:498)they will call him brave (cid:523)penelope(cid:524). (cid:499) while it was the last line of the poem, it was the line that stuck with me most after reading (cid:498)penelope(cid:499) by dorothy parker. The poem describes the role of powerful men versus women in the time period depicted by the odyssey, as well as the peneopliad. Men were able to lead very extravagant and entitled, adventurous lives while their women worked diligently in the background without praise or even recognition. That is what defined her, her reputation, and her merit. Penelope was considered as only one thing, the is viewed as is dependent on her husband. She would have never been viewed as an individual or judged on anything that had to do with her directly. If her reputation were to falter, it would only affect her husband, the king.
