Common law: high treason: crime against the monarchy (plot to overthrow or kill the monarch, petit treason: homicide by someone who was in a subservient position to another (servant killing his master) It was in a category of its own. Treason constitutes: levying war against the us, adhering to enemies, or giving enemies aid and comfort: breach of allegiance. Government must present testimony of 2 witnesses to prove treason or the defendant must make an omission in open court. Misprision of treason: makes it a crime to conceal the treason of others. Rebellion: insighting or engaging in any rebellion against the us. Advocating the overthrow of the government: felony for anyone to advocate for the overthrow of the federal and state government. Bribery (statutory crime): the offering, conferring, accepting, or soliciting of a benefit to influence an official act by a public servant or a party official.
