Nelson hairston sr. working in north carolina ravines. The north is on streams and stream banks of ravines. This is an example of zonaion where two species occur in diferent zones in one area. People previously thought that compeiion resulted in zonaion. This is because the salamanders are very similar in anatomy and they thought that zonaion allows them to coexist. The salamanders throw up when they get nervous. He was handling a northern one and it threw up a young mountain one. He did complex experiments to igure out that predaion was causing zonaion. In one part of stream he removed all northern and noiced that the mountain one moved in. The stream bank is the preferred habitat for both and that the predaion of northern on mountain limited the mountain to a subopimal habitat. Parasiism is simply and ecological form of predaion. The blight is a eurasian fungus that afects the american chestnut tree.
