Document Summary

It takes a long ime to igure out the survivorship curves for large populaions and for long lived species. Use a staic approach based on observed age distribuion across several cohorts. These are valid only if age distribuion is stable. Then by knowing the age at which they died, you could look at the way they would have died on the life table. Like if 10 people died before they were 5, then 190 people made it to the ith year. This would give a series of values relecing the sequenial removal of individuals by mortality. Curve example with constant mortality of 50 percent. The normal plot of age and lx is misleading so we do age and log lx plots. We just use that quadrant as the only quadrant. Type 1 survivorship is a bulge outward survivorship is high and decreases unil old age. Type 2 survivorship is straight line where the survivorship is constant.
