A lot of populaions show s shaped not j shaped curves. When a populaion goes rapidly to low density. Both imes the populaions crashed due to bioic interacions. Willows were driven locally exinct in a certain place. But then the rabbits were controlled and the willows were reintroduced. At low density the populaions are growing exponenially but as they density goes up the growth slows yielding the s shaped curve. With data in hand we think the model is incomplete because at low densiies they look like they will grow exponenially but do not do so for long. The meaning of r the intrinsic rate of natural increase. The units are individuals per individual per unit ime.
