Discriminative being able to listen things to such detail and be able to discriminate between two things [ex. used by doctors by stethoscopes, and musicians when tuning their instruments [change in pitch] ] Critical listening for inconsistency and/or contradictions; listening to prove the other person wrong [ex. used by lawyers, debaters, and parents who think their child isn"t telling the truth] Therapeutic or empathic the sole purpose is to understand. Empathy entering the private world of an other and moving about in it as if it were your own without ever losing the as if feeling. (carl rogers)
