ENGFLM 0530 Lecture Notes - Lecture 1: Blaxploitation, Screen One
Document Summary
Camera-man centric idea, the camera man controlled the scene/called the shots. Only one person could see the camera view at that time. Films were longer, more complex, more sets, director ran a whole crew. Had a blueprint for films, and slotted people in. Actors had contracts and could only work with one studio at a time. Didn"t work one film at a time, just did whatever the studio needed them to be in. This happened b/c studios wanted to make films really quickly, less about quality. Film was so popular and profitable, people would come whether the film was good or not. Wizard of oz vs singing in the rain trailer. One uses voice over, one words on the screen. One sells the book and describes scenes vs one shows the clips and emphasizes the famous actors in it. After 1950s, studios got so big, did everything: production, distribution, exhibition.
