Neuroscience is a field that combines elements of all of the natural sciences to study the brain and nervous system. The actions or reactions of an organism in response to external or internal stimuli. In this class, we will mostly focus on basic behaviors such as being alert and moods like being happy: we will also discuss how animals respond to drugs. Pharmacology: study of the fate of drugs in the body and their actions in the body. Neuropharmacology: the study of the effects of drugs on the nervous system (brain) Psychopharmacology: the study of the behavioral effects of drugs. Instrumental use: drug use for a specific purpose other than getting (cid:862)high(cid:863) i. e. aspirin for a headache, tylenol for aches and pains, laxatives for constipation, antidepressants, adderall for add/adhd, antibiotics. Recreational use: drug use to achieve some pleasurable effect. Drinking alcohol, marijuana without prescription, heroin, cocaine. Drug abuse: drug-taking behavior resulting in some form of physical, mental, or social impairment.
