PSY 0010 Lecture Notes - Lecture 4: Default Mode Network, Mirror Neuron, Myelin
Document Summary
Neurons: cells in the nervous system that communicate with one another to perform information-processing tasks. Santiago ramon y cajal (1852-1934): first stained neurons of the brain. Neurons are the cells in your brain. About 100 million of them in your brain. Some part of spinal system, the rest in the brain. We wouldn"t be able to do anything if neurons did not work. Myelin sheath is the insulation for communication: important in information being passed along, make up white matter in the brain. Information that has everything to do with our behavior. Neurons that receive information from the external world and convey this information to the brain via the spinal chord. Neurons that carry signals from the spinal cord to the muscles that produce movement. Neurons that connect sensory neurons, motor neurons, and other interneurons. Neurons come in all shapes and sizes. When the impulse reaches the axon the action impulse begins.
