Peers are important source of companionship and assistance with problems and tasks. Become source of emotional support and provide children with their first experience of intimate interpersonal relationship later in life. 5th graders with best friend viewed positively by others, 23 yr olds who had best friend in 5th grade have several positive outcomes. Some people argue that children can have friends before age of 2. Before 12 months- non social play, not really paying attention to others.
