Document Summary

Lecture notes chapter 1 social approach to social problems. We should blame the system (government, economic system) Ex. the justice system (the way the system is organized causes problems) The system gets blamed because the system is less responsive to the individuals: system-blame approach: blame the system more than the individual. It"s ok to have your own opinion, but you can"t fight the facts. Be aware of your own biases/stereotypes we have toward social problems. Not everyone in america believes everyone is equal (ex. Trump thinks he is better than some because he has a lot of money) The us has upward mobility (and if we lose this, it"s not good) American society tries to be fair (not to be in people"s way) People come to the us because you can think and act freely; however, it is very competitive (and you will not always succeed) (the doors are open, but there"s no guarantee of success)
