Framing: the way an issue is presented is important (including the language that is used) in convincing people to support a cause. Frame alignment: connection between movement values and goals and concerns of potential supporters. Master frames: frames that can be applied by a number of movements. When going against the movement, never use their language. Organizations of reporters from different news organizations on beat. Cooperation (narrows views talks between reporters, confirm details, harder to shake a frame if everyone is reporting the same thing) Objective reporting: minimum interpretation, sources say this, reliance on sources. Authoritative sources: what someone says happens, sources need to be reliable. Event orientation and the news peg : timing, long-term issues wait for pegs or events to get the attention of the media to get the long-term issue in the news. Importance of issue (number of people involved and magnitude of the effect, i. e. more disruption)
