Criticizes how women are treated in many traditions. Policies try to improve women"s agency in order to achieve a goal. Some of these policies treat women as a mean. Even though the intention is to treat women as an end by providing education, it is actually to advance their own agenda, i. e. reducing fertility rates, thus treating women as a means. In the process of doing that, you"re ending up treating women as a means. Standard debate that is still lively within liberal political philosophy. It"s not enough to dump goods on people. When you use other people to realize your own conception of good, even if you"re acting altruistically, you"re treating them as a means instead of an end. You are disrespecting them as a self-fulfilling agent with their own goals. She says rawls doesn"t go far enough in his interpretation. 2 kinds of obstacles to attainment of capabilities.
