Chemistry and biochemistry is essential for understanding the process of life and how we can cure diseases and discover new ones. Structure and properties of matter: matter- (includes solids, liquids, and gases) everything is made of matter, elements- make up matter. All atoms are electrically neutral because they have the same number of electrons and protons: ions. Anions- negatively charged ions (gains electrons: atomic weight: determined by number of protons and neutrons. Isotopes: an element has the same number of protons in their nuclei, but different numbers of neurons.
