History: heider (1958) --psychological theory of attribution, weiner and colleagues created theoretical framework. , heider (1958) states that people try to explain behavior (i. e. , success or failure) through (cid:862)attri(cid:271)utio(cid:374)s(cid:863), (cid:449)hi(cid:272)h are either (cid:894)e(cid:454)ter(cid:374)al(cid:895) situatio(cid:374)al or perso(cid:374)al (cid:894)i(cid:374)ter(cid:374)al(cid:895) dispositio(cid:374). Three things are looked at to decide: (kelley, 1967): consensus do individuals perform or behave similarly when in a similar position, example: do others turn up late for class that day, example: everybody in the audience is laughing. Frank rarely laughs at this comedian, consistency is low: distinctiveness is this perso(cid:374)(cid:859)s perfor(cid:373)a(cid:374)(cid:272)e differe(cid:374)t o(cid:374) other tasks a(cid:374)d i(cid:374) other situations, if it is, the observer is likely to give the behavior an external attribution. If this action is not unusual, it will be judged as internal: ex: is it only this class, or does the person turn up late for other classes too, ex: frank only laughs that this comedian. If frank laughs at everything, distinctiveness is low.
