Revisiting the reading workshop: management, mini-lessons, and strategies. Offers students time to read, choices about what they will read, and opportunities for conversations about their reading. Provides students with a supportive environment that involves them in authentic reading experiences that focuses on strategic reading. 10-15 min mini-lesson that teaches concepts, techniques, and strategies. Can be taught in conjunction with a read aloud. Can use literature to model reading strategies, to discuss author"s craft, or to focus on a particular skill. After mini-lesson, students engage in independent reading. *lies at heart of the reading workshop because students work and practice their reading. Can be alone, in pairs, or groups. Participate in a teacher-led guided reading group. Engage in a story chat with a group of peers. Use this time to choose a book or to help another child choose a book. Write a response to what they have just read.
