AT 250 Lecture 8: Balance
Document Summary
Uses a lot of same mechanisms as nmc. Horizontal location of cognitive relative to bos. Vertical location of cognitive relative to base of support (bos) Damage results in decreased joint rom decreased limits of stability. A body behaves as though all its mass were concentrated at center of gravity. More mass, greater force required to produce a given acceleration. The greater the friction between objects, the greater force required for initiating or maintaining motion. Area enclosed by outermost edges of body in contact with supporting surface(s) When line of action of body weight outside bos torque created causes angular motion, disrupting stability. Closer (horizontally) cog is to limit of support. Smaller f required to push it outside bos disrupts stability. If horizontal force must be sustained, stability enhanced if cog closer to oncoming force. Cog displaced further before moving outside bos. Higher cog = greater potential for greater disruption in torque. Most important element in dictating movement strategies in ckc.
