1986: wole soyinka is first african writer to win nobel prize in literature. Takes place in yoruba and igbo- different style of english language. Elesin leaving praise singer behind= going where he is not needed. Elesin has multiple wives- forgets mother of children and the praise-singer. Symbolizes him forgetting who has been by his side for a long time. Praise singer and elesin are going to the market where the women are. Praise singer is always looking for some type of journey or adventure to go on. Elesin will always be remembered and will be great. Elesin is going to die-to meet forebears/ancestors. Elesin is a sensualist- loves food, drinking, and women. Praise singer brings up slavery and war between the kingdoms. Terrible things have happened but their culture has remained the same. All the women are trying to praise elesin. Iyaloja is afraid when elesin dies they will be cursed with his anger.
