Has had all of these things before-he has had enough in his life. Elesin has had a rich and fulfilling life. It is time for him to join his ancestors in the after life. The king gave elesin everything he ever wanted. There has to be something left for the next generation. Elesin sees young women and desires her. Wants this woman even though he is about to die. Elesin wants what he wants even in death. The people are so willing to do whatever elesin asks of them. His wish is to have sex with this woman. His wish transcends death and the tremor of the senses. Wants to travel lightly into the next life- have one more child. Elesin cannot be trusted and acts selfishly towards others. Characters: district officer picklings and his wife jane. Amusa: police officer under the district officer. Amusa is afraid of the picklings clothing-ritual and spiritual dresses.
