NUR 324 Lecture 10: Management of Patients with structural
Document Summary
Management of patients with structural, infectious and inflammatory cardiac disorders. Aortic valve between the left ventricle and aorta. Regurgitation: the valve does(cid:374)"t close properly and blood backflows through the valve. Stenosis: the valve does not completely open and blood flow through the valve is reduced. Valve prolapse: the stretching of an atrioventricular valve (mitral or tricuspid) leaflet into the atrium during systole (contraction) Aortic regurgitation: flow of blood back into left ventricle from aorta during diastole, blood also entering left ventricle from left atrium. Aortic stenosis: narrowing of orifice, degenerative calcification is often the pause, asymptomatic response if the stenosis develops slowly the left ventricle with make compensations. Leaflet repair direct surgical repair to the leaflets. Individualized for patient and type of procedure (open vs closed: post procedure monitoring for recovery from anesthesia, blood pressure, hr, cardiac rhythm; fluid volume, anticoagulation therapy (prevents blood clots, antibiotic prophylaxis.
