According to the new oxford american dictionary, psychology is defined as the scientific study of the human mind and its functions, especially those affecting behavior in a given context. The major objectives of this course surrounded or were in relation to the five different perspectives of psychology, which are the biological perspective, cognitive perspective, developmental perspective, social perspective and the practitioner perspective. With these perspectives we were able to explore the history of psychology and the many theorists and their theories, behavioral neuroscience, research methods, sensation and perception, personality and psychological disorders among other things. We began the class with a refreshing crash course on proper ways to study and complete assignments before diving into the actual material of the course. The first couple modules of ps 101 acted as a foundation for my learning as it commenced with many definitions while exploring the goals of psychology.
