The disorders: psychogenic amnesia: amnesia caused by something psychological. Sudden inability to recall personal identity and important personal information. Not due to drug or alcohol use/any organic cause. 1-2% of the population: fugue state: means to travel . Travel: don"t know where they"re going and why. Doesn"t last forever weeks to months: dissociative identity disorders: multiple personality disorder. Existence of two or more distinct personalities in the same individual/person. Dominant personality at the given time determines behavior. Example: different ages, genders, sexual orientations, biology"s. Different personalities may know of each other. Don"t know what happens with different personalities. All have to do with a severe emotional trauma: psychogenic amnesia: could be from a one time severe trauma (rape) Defense mechanism: blocking/repression you don"t want to remember it.
