QU 400 Lecture Notes - Lecture 1: The Empty Bottle
Document Summary
Silver water is the story of a family"s encounter with mental illness and how it can simultaneously tear a family apart and hold them together. The story is told from the perspective of violet, rose"s sister, who is incredibly descriptive about every person and encounter. She makes her love for rose very apparent from the beginning to the end. She recalls a time when they were younger when they were in a parking lot and rose began to sing. When the family goes to a new therapist they are cohesive and have fun at the same time. When they go to the worst family therapist, rose acts out by singing loudly while massaging her breasts. The therapist is horrified, but the family just laughs. Determined to break through this family, the therapist asks why everyone is so entertained by rose"s inappropriate behavior. They reply by defending rose and each one supporting the other.
