Especially in situations where there is potential for bad or poor behavior. Better gender neutral term = fair play. Sport can teach both ethical & unethical behavior after it. How a sportsperson behaves not only during a contest but also before & American sport was strongly influenced by british sport. Shows modesty & composure in victory & defeat. The aristocratic british sport of 19th century elevated fair play to a way of life as well as a way of competing in sport. Ncaa bylaw 10 contains numerous rules governing the ethical conduct of institutional personnel and student-athletes. Ncaa committee on sportsmanship and ethical conduct is looking at issues such as: Development of video for coaches & student-athletes about sportsmanship. Eliminating or discouraging unnecessary dialogue among officials, participants & fans during events.
