Social philosophy deals with questions about our lives being intertwined with the lives of other people. Our lives are structured by a variety of social institutions. Intuitions also encompass conventions and understandings of certain concepts. Our lives would be immeasurably different without these conventions/understandings/ etc. Questions whether things are as they ought to be. To talk about principals is to talk about the norms that govern our thinking. Not entirely normative b/c what norms we accept are usually determined by what"s feasible. We don"t want a set of ideals that are so utopian that our society can"t support them. But, we want enough critical distance to say whether or not we think something will be better if we change it. We will talk about social ideals of various kinds.
