Arneson wants to give a more subtle analysis than nozik did. Arneson wants to say that nozik"s points don"t hold up for pure public goods. Nozik"s pa system: exhibits features 1, 2, and 3 (pure public good) Free tv: exhibits features 1 and 2 (collective good) Nozik"s argument against the pa system is an argument against the fairness principle being applicable to pure public goods. He says that pure public goods should require obligation. Gift giving scheme: (in this scheme, 2 and 3 aren"t satisfied) You are not obligated by the gift giving scheme. However, you are not obligated because they can exclude you. Arneson"s argument seems to presuppose that you have already said you do not want to be a part of the scheme.
