Raz and margalit argue that there are certain sets of characteristics that can sometimes justify a right to secede for those groups. If you say that group membership is a basis for the right to secede, then you might say that: The bearer of the right is the group itself. They talk about ascriptive group rights and them having the right to secede. They don"t say that it is the group that has the right. What they are saying that the right that the group has is derivative from facts about members of the group. The right stems from the wellbeing of the individuals within the group. The well-being of individuals is the ultimate source of justification in this context. Having an important view of the events of the history of the group and how things came to their certain situation.
