The law is where we regulate, announce, and put forward the standards of which we expect of people. Some of those standards we view as criminal standards. Civil law is the part of the law that you"re most likely to encounter. You have damaged me and i want to be compensated. Can demand documents such as emails, files, etc. Have the right to get a deposition from people. You can always say that you aren"t going to testify. You can"t draw any inferences from the person not testifying because everybody has the right not to testify. Punishment is supposed to convey a moral condemnation. Tort law: you"re paying for what you did criminal law: we are condemning you. If a person is tried in a criminal court, you get nothing. Intentional torts allow for a person to sue another person for compensation. Found innocent in murder trial, but found liable for damages in a civil trial.
