It was noted in section 8. 21 that peroxisomes are able to import folded proteins. Yet, these same organelles are impermeable to relatively small molecules such as nadh and acetyl-coa. The peroxisomal proteins contain specific signals (ptss) that mediate import via interaction with a peroxisome-protein receptor. The rer would have the srp receptor and protein- translocating channel proteins. The process can be studied in embryos where it occurs for the first time. A similar version of glucocerebrosidase with exposed mannose residues is being produced by recombinant dna technology using a special line of cells. Clue: information to answer this question is provided in figure 8. 22. Although the golgi complex is brightly stained, there is scattered red fluorescence in other parts of the cell.
