CHEM 06101 Lecture Notes - Lecture 7: Sodium Hydroxide, Equivalence Point, Molar Mass

Document Summary

The objective of this experiment was to calculate the mass of an unknown diprotic acid. In the experiment, a sample of a specific diprotic acid was dissolved in roughly 60ml of distilled water. Titration was then performed in a 600ml beaker mixing distilled water with 0. 183 grams of diprotic acid, and then slowly adding 0. 1 molar sodium hydroxide (naoh) until the ph of the solution reaches constant. Stoichiometry was then used to find the molar mass of diprotic acid. The results of my experiments are; the average atomic mass that i found was 110. 9 g/mol. The ph of the solution was roughly 12. As per assumption the mid point and equivalence point are little off. The main objective of this lab was to find the diprotic acid from its mass used in the experiment. The objective of this is accurately achieved because this experiment was time bounded so we were only able to perform 1st trial instead of three trials.
