Protestantism started with the protestant reformation (which last from 1517-1648) Martin luther (1483-1546) thought that the catholic church wasn"t using their power correctly, especially when it came to purchasing indulgences. He protested specific aspects of catholicism like the corruption of the church as an institution. He prints the bible other than latin, he translated it to german. He thought that it was important that all people should be able to read the bible in their own time. The reformation spreads all the way throughout europe creating a lt of religious wars between protestant nations and catholic ones. Very strict sect of protestantism taken from the ideas of john calvin. Puritans not popular in england and argues that the church of england was almost as bad as catholicism, so they wanted to go to north america and create their own ideal religious community. Religious dissenters in england; went to exile in netherlands and then new england.
