But e2 remains below the threshold to stimulate gnrh surge neurons: maturity of female, hypothalamus becomes more sensitive to e2 a) Increased sensitivity to e2 activates gnrh surge center: preovulatory burst of gnrh/lh, post pubertal endocrine profiles, tonic lh release a) low amplitude / high frequency, lh surge, ~ every 16-28 days, preovulatory e2 surges. Males: defining puberty, age when sexual behaviors are expressed, mounting behavior, errections before ability to ejactulate b) In sufficient criteria for puberty: age at first ejaculation, full development of nerves, muscles, and accessory glands, occurs before sufficient sperm production c) Limiting factor in the onset of puberty: hypothalamus: anterior pituitary (ap) 1: the pituitary is okay (and responds) meaning it works, the gonads.
