Hiroshige, plum orchard, kameido, 1857, woodblock print: artists starting to play around with flat space, poetic and ambient approach, part of one hundred famous views of edo (what is now modern tokyo), branches on the ground droop like a dragon, wide branches take up much of the foreground but cropped by the frame giving a resemblance to japanese calligraphy. The little girl at the bottom is eating the apple, and is clothed: a stone deity in the back, representing various gods and worship and religions, three women sitting on the right while the baby is sleeping, person crouching near the alcove looks puzzled as to why the people in the alcove are thinking of their own fate, his goal is to take the academy completely out of the painting nothing trained, nothing beautiful, just something he made to express himself and his emotions.
