So are all the other angels, prophets, virgins, etc: parable of the new testament, basically on how to get into heaven, people who get into heaven are the ones who are devoted and honest their whole lives, they are not late wise virgins, foolish virgins depicted less modestly and more emotional and casual, wise ones look more modest and smiling softly as they stand properly, foolish virgin holding apple, first sin, and has a serpent in her robe, wise virgins standing in contrapposto, thinner and more graceful. Florence: sitting on a golden throne surrounded by different saints, mary is a lot bigger than everyone else in the picture, shows scale of hierarchy, looking down at us almost, as if she knows more than we do, hand gesture (mudra) gesturing at jesus, signaling him as the savior, she is completely in the middle, symmetrical balance, in the center of perfection, looking at the viewer, she is the ultimate intercessor.
