Emphasized the mystical side of religious experience and paved the way for the intensity and illusionism of baroque painting: more of a party scene, with christ in the middle of everyone else, coming out from the lamp on the top are whispy looking angels, who could also be smoke hallucinations, judas is the only disciple without a mini halo, sitting outside the table away from the others, given dynamic quality by the table placed diagonally to the picture surface. Caravaggio made the bad lighting for a reason, he doesn"t want you looking at anything else: the people are sitting around a table outside, many hand gestures going on, and they"re dressed like aristocracy (the normal clothes then) except for the two people on the right that everyone is looking at, people at the front of the table standing, are religious figures (christ and peter), other are contemporary.
