Recycling does not operate efficiently in modern society; more solid waste generated. Not all industrial products end up as waste products since some products are biodegradable - materials that are not foreign to natural food chains, materials that can be consumer by some living organism. The united states has about 4. 7% of the world"s population - however it produces about 33% of the solid waste found around the world. Paper, paperboard, cardboard - in 1935, 35% of waste paper was reused, in 1980 less than. Today we use aluminum cans - practically indestructible when dumped into the environment, they accumulate as solid waste in large amounts, in 1991 62% of aluminum beverage cans were recycled. Autos - people could get an old car for -50, the cars could be stripped and the scrapped steel sold. Many cars are now abandoned on the side of roads, no one wants to pay to have their car transported to a junk yard.
