Document Summary

A subset of the orientation cells also has direction selectivity. That is, they prefer movement in a certain direction. One experiment showed that a particular cell preferred a vertical bar of light moving from left to right. If the bar moved from right to left the response was less pronounced (less action potentials). Most of the direction selective cells appear to get input from the m-type ganglion cells. There are different cells that all have different preferences for different directions. The cortical modules are a part of the primary visual cortex (2x2x2 mm cubes). It contains cells that can analyze all different aspects of visual inputs. The whole primary visual cortex (v1) is made up of approximately 1000 of these modules. This allows every point in space to be analyzed for the different aspects of visual inputs. Visual cortex layers ii, iii, iv, v and vi.
