The gloominess and sadness are more prominent: the difference between the lovestruck boy and todd are more prominent in the performance. This is because the images in the film can more easily show london and its morose environment: the sets on stage are moved continuously, and the characters are in action at every point. The film doesn"t have to change sets like that, and there can be silences with views of landscapes and the bakery: the camera in each version has different capabilities as well. Mechanical reproduction of movement (or apparent movie) Similar to a thaumatrope, an optical toy that blurred two images together. Three flashlights side by side flashing quickly makes it look like there is just one light. The zeotrope: a cylinder with shots that spins and image around, makes it look as if the image is moving. These only allowed for short strips, therefore not much movement in the image.
