Not met with a lot of praise from audiences. Hires diane johnson, a novelist, to help him write the screenplay from the stephen. At the end of the day, kubrick decided to cut out 25 minutes of the movie. He poured his heart into this movie clearly and cut some out because he was going to lose money. Jack was doomed from the start, it wasn"t him who killed his wife and child - they killed him and left him. The story takes place in colorado in the middle of nowhere, where a family is staying in the overlook hotel. Kubrick was always interested in westerns, but he made this one a little different. He references indians (they had to kill some when building the hotel), modern. American pop culture, and cultures of the past. One scene in the movie shows jack looking at a scrapbook with newspaper clippings about the hotel.
