Document Summary

To convert analog to digital = convert to binary. Measuring sound wave = use a bit to measure how above/below the wave is to the 0 line at a given point on our graph (but there is ininite points that a wave passes through) Sampling taking measurements of sound wave at regular intervals. Sample rate = number of samples in a second. Nyquist rule: sampling must be at least twice as fast as the fastest frequency (of the sound) Humans can hear sound up to roughly 20,000 hz. *more bits used in sampling = more accurate the measurement is. Sound microphone (transducer) analog-to-digital converter (adc) binary numbers. Standard audio digital representaion uses 16 bits. Mp3 is a form of compuing on the representaion.
