Use of force: can legally take somebody s life. Constructive authority: not touching you but making you do something. Mechanical force: items that we carry (batons, night sticks) Police discretion: leave the choice up to the oicer, allow some latitude. When police is given too much latitude, it will become abuse, abusing that discretion. Police subculture: informal values, informal way of doing something in that department, what is acceptable. No matter what you do, there is a subculture (clubs, sports teams etc. ) certain ways of doing things in the police department. Abuse of authority: doing it for an organizational gain. Police socialization: police working personality, socially in the police department. If you want to become a cop -> written exam, oral test, medical, background check, psychological test, interview. Internal afairs: police the police, have early warning systems in place to try to predict future behavior.
