Book iii 119-139 (mytilenian debate); 150-155 (corcyraean revolution) Pg. 10: wrote account of war as possession of all-time. First line of the book: thucydides, an athenian, wrote the history of the war. Senior commander and general in the athenian navy. Not a good one: defeated by spartan commander brasidas. The war destroyed both athens and sparta. Thucydides refers to spartans as lacedaemondians or peloponnesians. They were opposite from each other, just like us and soviet union. Athens and sparta were allies about 20 years earlier in the persian war. Wanted to write an objective account of what happened in the war. Pg. 10: accuracy of reports were subject to the most severe and detailed as possible. Looks at thucydides" accounts of origins of war and the reason of war. Provides a detailed account of various events that led to the outbreak of the war.
