Legal education as training for hierarchy, duncan kennedy. One of the founders of cls movement: critical legal studies radical left wing critique of the law . Combines: legal realism, critical marxism, post-structuralist literary theory. Cls takes legal realism as a starting point. Legal realists saw legal doctrine as an empty shell. This grounded a kind of optimism for them. Law could be adjusted to realist such that it would produce good policy: good policy must follow the facts, social scientists, those who know the facts, can make the world better. Ideas, concepts, judgements: play a role in experience and in determining results, propositions are not true or false. The world is not as clear-cut as the realists make it out to be. Social sciences provide answers but they might have their own biases. Law, society, and politics are all constructed for human purposes. They do not re ect an objective reality.
