Issue of race relations as persistent question mark re: future of south, its role in american economy and society. The dignity of labor: no race can prosper till it learns that there is as much dignity in tilling a field as in writing a poem. If southern whites build bridges to southern blacks: you will find that they will buy your surplus land, make blossom the waste places in your fields, and run your factories.
