Document Summary
*the concepts of genetics, evolutionary psychology and behavior make statements about people in general not individuals. Blueprint for how we turn out (both physically and psychologically) From conception onward (how your mother ate while she was pregnant, the way your parents and friends treated you) Interactions between nature and nurture (genes and environment) Nature view- humans enter the world with an inborn store of knowledge. Newborns are born already knowing how to do things (sucking reflex, wanting to play) No one has the teach them these things. Nurture view- knowledge is acquired through experiences and interactions with the world. Characteristics developed because of the things around us. Range of reaction- genetic makeup establishes range of possible developmental outcomes. Genes provide the range for how you turn out and environment determines where within the range you fall. Siblings don"t have the same range of reaction unless they are identical twins. Interaction between nature and nurture (genes and environment)
